Plethora of New Posts!

A tuna sammie from a place called Green Peas.

Which reminds me, I used to wear a shirt that said "Visualize Whirled Peas." And I grew up with a dog that hated peas and would literally eat around them on a plate of food.

So you see, me and Peas have a long and beautiful history of going together like them and carrots!

What, you never gave your dog an entire plate of leftover human food to lick clean? What are you, a monster?

A Vacation - During Your Lunch Hour

Hola Faithful Readers,

Thanks for hanging in there. I know it's been a long time since my last update. But hey, at least I'm not as bad as verymarykate.com!

The above photo is Greg while on vacation...during one of our last lunch hours that we were actually allowed to leave our desks. Sometimes going to a pretty spot and forgetting about the ringing phone in your office can feel like you're in a far away land called Santorini.

And at those times, you will feel like a lottery winner when you discover AN EXTRA SLICE OF QUESADILLA hidden in your to-go box.

Extra slice FTW.

I need that research...Choppe Choppe!

Choppe Choppe is a great lunch place located in Culver City. Greg and I rode our bikes there and enjoyed a leisurely 15 minute break from our daily routine. I got the market chicken sandwich. Greg made the inaccurate comment "there's almost too much bread" but I slapped him across his face and he quickly retracted it.

There's no such thing as too much bread.

Father's Day Lunch - Special Edition -

It was Sunday morning in San Antonio, Texas. I had already showered and checked out of my hotel on the riverwalk. The wedding lunch from the day before was a distant memory to my stomach. I was on the hunt for a movie theater when I saw it. There, on the side of the frontage road, emerging from behind a cluster of trees like a desert oasis - Pappasito's. I have never parked faster.

It was packed. We're talking 30 people milling around the hostess stand, waiting for a seat on Father's Day. Not this girl. I headed straight to the bar, ordered a water and a medium queso. I can still taste that melted, hot cheese on the toasted salty chips (as thin as paper). The only thing better would have been having my father there to buy me a margarita (on the rocks, with salt).

A Traditional Texan Wedding Lunch

It might look simple, but my Texas wedding lunch was a Styrofoam tray-full of deliciousness: Beef brisket, potato salad, beans, and a slice of white bread with a cup of sweet tea. Just the thing a bride and groom need to get their life together on the right track.

On The Road

For the rest of the week, What's For Lunch Today? is in the great state of Texas. Home to ten-gallon hats, cotton-eyed joes, and.....

Sonic.

After an early morning flight to San Antonio, driving over 100 miles to Victoria, and checking into my hotel, this hungry traveler devoured a hamburger from sonic much too quickly to photograph (plus the free hotel internet is too slow to upload photos). So, dear readers, this entry is left to your imagination.

But I will say that when I ordered it my way the gal taking my order said, "so you just want mayo and lettuce?" Yes, dear Texas, I just want mayo and lettuce.

And a diet dr pepper for kicks.
